Troop Youth Leadership

Troop 60 is dedicated to shaping scouts into leaders both within the troop and in their future endeavors. The troop offers a variety of exceptional training programs that significantly contribute to the development of youth leadership. These programs form the foundation of Troop 60's leadership development initiatives.

The training supports scouts in their leadership roles, helping them grow in positions of responsibility. Achieving Honor rank advancement involves serving in a leadership position for a minimum of six months or completing a Scoutmaster-approved leadership project that benefits the troop.

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops

ILST teaches Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to be most effective in them.  With this training, Scouts in leadership positions better understand their responsibilities, equipping them with the organizational and leadership skills to be successful. Troop 60 conducts ILST training sessions at least once a  year.See your Scoutmaster for the next available session.

National Youth Leadership Training

The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must be, what they must know, and what they must do.  The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on how to.  The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership.

NYLT is a six-day leadership training course for youth troop leaders. Participants must be at least 13 years old, earned the First Class rank, and have completed ILST training with their troop.  See your Scoutmaster for a recommendation.

National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience

NAYLE is an exciting program that enhances leadership skills and expands upon the team-building and ethical decision-making skills learned in NYLT. NAYLE emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and selfless service, using the core elements of NYLT to help youth strengthen these skills. The NAYLE course is available at all four national high-adventure bases.

NAYLE will equip youth leaders to be better unit leaders, NYLT staff members, and/or superior camp staff members. Participants must be at least 14 years old, hold a unit leadership position, and have completed NYLT.  See your Scoutmaster for a recommendation.

Every scout is given the opportunity to hold a position of responsibility since it is required for rank advancement.  There are many different positions for scouts to take, and all give the scouts the opportunity to practice leadership.
